First time?

May 5, 2023 1 min read 221 words 7 reactions Read on Substack →

I’ve received amazing feedback from my transparency of being on the spectrum. A lot of people DM’d me and let me know that they ‘now understand me better,’ and a few have given me positive encouragement revealing that they too struggle with mental health. These are the comments that are life-giving. It’s great to be able to connect with people all over the world this way.

I wrote that post because this is my first year… the first time I’ve ever lost work due to my psychological disposition. I frankly couldn’t believe it. It stung (just) a bit. I’m human, after all.

Long story short: I had a manager in a client specifically tell me she can’t work with me because I have autism (high functioning tho!), and that she wants to work with a different coach who doesn’t show the fullness of his emotional capacity and isn’t excitable. If you’ve ever spent time with me in a Agile class, in a client, or as a venture capitalist, you know I get excited. You know I bring my full-self to the equation. You get what you get!

I never thought I’d ever have someone ‘reject me’ due to my emotional range.

I guess there is a first time for everything.

Stay positive and have a blessed day!

All the best,
ps
